April 2012 Director's Letter

From: 2012-04-04

The move to an electronic format for release of information by the TABA affords me the opportunity to communicate with you on a regular basis regarding current issues associated with the Aggie Band.  I welcome this opportunity and look forward to providing information to the membership on a routine basis.

NEW AGGIE BAND RECORDING RELEASED

Through funding provided by the TABA, the Aggie Band has continued our practice of releasing a new compact disc recording every fourth year.  The current release, “2011 Texas Aggie Band – Pulse of Aggieland” is now available for purchase.  Recorded in Kyle Field on October 30, 2011, the CD features 23 tracks, including our standard fare in addition to several selections that were recorded for the first time by the Aggie Band.  These newer selections include both standard marches and pieces that I arranged specifically for the band.  The band members put forth a great deal of effort during the recording session for this release (about eight hours in one day), and I am very pleased with the results.  I highly encourage everyone to purchase a copy of the new CD.  Profits from sales assist the TABA with their efforts in supporting the Aggie Band.

AGGIE BAND TRAVEL FOR THE FALL 2012 SEMESTER

As we begin to chart our course for Aggie Band travel in the SEC, I wanted to share our plans for the 2012 football season.  The Aggie Band will be making four trips in addition to performing at all Kyle Field home games.  The first trip, which takes place during the opening week of the fall semester, will be a Thursday evening game in Shreveport as our season opener against Louisiana Tech on August 30th.  We will take only the upperclassmen to this game, leaving the fish at home to deal with the academic demands of the fall semester opening week.  The full band will bus to Dallas for the SMU game (Sept. 15) and to Oxford for the University of Mississippi game (Oct. 6).  The upperclassmen will fly to Alabama for our game on November 10th.  We are appreciative to the university for realizing the importance of Aggie Band attendance at these games and for their assistance in necessary funding.  We also wish to thank The Association of Former Students for the travel funding that they provide yearly to the Aggie Band.
